MONA is used by mobile emergency response teams for the detection and localization of radiation contamination in the environment. The system acquires the gamma spectra in real time and identifies the isotopes, calculates the total gamma dose rate as well as the dose rate for each identified nuclide.
It compares the measured and calculated results against predefined alarm levels and uses GPS data to assign the actual monitoring location to the related data records and spectra. The complete data set is stored in a local database.
MONA can be operated under all climatic conditions due to it–s hermetically sealed housing.
APPLICATIONS
• Survey and detection of gamma contamination in the environment
• Uncovering and localization of hidden radioactive material
• Tracking down radioactive parts deriving from accidents such as crashed nuclear-powered satellites
• Vehicle and airborne acquisition of surface contamination profiles (screening of areas)
• Support during nuclear emergencies for civil defense, fire brigades and radiation protection
• Routine measurements around nuclear installations
• Oil and gas industry
